In this rough coming-of-age tale from the Czech Republic, three high-school girlfriends try to extend their adolescence by hitchhiking to Holland on a post-graduation lark. When the little brother of one finds a way to tag along, he inadvertently becomes their guide to self-discovery.
Despite their differences, plump, sarcastic Vendula, sexy, scheming Karolína and introverted Iska count themselves members of the same tribe, sharing as they do not only a history but a mode of self-expression and a sense of humor – much like teens anywhere. When they accept offers for temporary jobs on a Dutch farm, they imagine – also like teens anywhere – that what awaits them is a vacation rather than a working stint. And so it is for awhile – as Iska's brother Votja finds out when he tracks them down and is duly rewarded by glimpses of their escapades, from nude bathing to lesbian experimentation. But he bears witness to much more than that: as the girls hatch schemes to throw Votja off their trail, he becomes a catalyst for identity crises that signal the end of their friendship – and their childhood.
Under the passionate direction of co-screenwriter Karin Babinská, the young actors – whose roles require much that borders on the sexually explicit – deliver fearless performances.
